University of Hawaii Regent Chuck Yim Gee has been named to the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gallery of Legends for his lifetime achievement in establishing an important human legacy for the worldwide travel industry through education, training, and research.
PATA bestowed this extraordinary honor on Gee at its 63rd Annual General Assembly in Zhuhai, China on May 18, 2014.
UH Board of Regents Chair John Holzman said, What a pleasure it is to see Chuck named to the PATA Gallery of Legends.
Chuck just keeps bringing honor to our community as a UH leader, donor, regent, and now as a pillar of his profession and our most important industry.
Both schools are currently being led by interim deans: Thomas Bingham, who replaced Dean Clark Llewellyn earlier this year, is interim dean of the School of Architecture and Juanita Liu has been the interim dean for the TIM school.
Chuck Gees continuous efforts have consistently received recognition by governments and organizations and his many prestigious awards including two honorary academic doctorates, serve as a testament to his noteworthy achievements and to the strong foundations he established during his tenure as TIM Dean and the years thereafter. He also served as historian for PATA, co-editor of two editions of the history of PATA.As an academic scholar his textbooks are widely adopted by colleges and universities and recognized as seminal works in resort and hotel management in national, regional and international contexts."When these searches are completed by the end of the academic year, academic units at Mānoa will have strong permanent leadership across the board." Vance Roley, dean of the Shidler College of Business, will chair the search committee for the architecture position, while College of Education Dean Donald Young will chair the TIM school search. The two committees will recommend finalists to Dasenbrock and UH Manoa Chancellor Tom Apple. Gees most outstanding contributions have been in the development of human resources through education and training that have enabled the industry to respond to challenges and adapt to changes throughout the past decades.
